I think when most people (myself included) bash stance around here, they're referring to cars with excessive negative camber, not ones that have been tastefully lowered. Like anything, there's a range.

There's appropriate camber, then there's "will screw up a tire in 8k miles" camber.

the camber is called hellaflushing, its the next level in the progressive disease that is known as stance culture.

Theres a difference between stance and "lowering a car" that I don't think most people understand. When your car is stanced, you rock 225 tires on 10" wheels and your car scrapes a part off the undercarriage any time you go over a leaf.

The 2002, Ok. Can't watch the video at work. The...can't remember what that is on the bottom. Nope. Wheels to big, rear wheels about 500% too much negative camber. It would be fine lowered a little, maybe evenon some 17s if it was track prepped or something fun. But that just doesn't do it for me at all. Not even a semi.

Yeah, the E9 is on air. I've actually seen it in person once at H2Oi and when its actually driving (as opposed to driving for a video) the rear camber is actually not bad at all. It's still low, but I would be willing to bet that car has never scraped on anything. Personally, I think its a stunning car. It was actually my wallpaper for a while. But to each his (or her) own!

Kinja'd!!! SmoresTM Has No Chill (O==[][]==O) > HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles
06/11/2014 at 14:46

I just think its silly that people hate on stance culture so adamantly when its like any other car culture out there. There are some people who spend a lot of time and/or money to do it right and are true enthusiasts, and then there are a lot of people who just cut the springs and call it a day. Just like there are people who lift there trucks/Jeeps/whatever properly and rework the suspension geometry, and there are some who body-lift their vehicles to get the look without spending the money. That kind of dichotomy is not only found in "stance" culture, and people seem to forget that. Also, this is not an entirely new fad, and people need to realize that too. Its an evolution of sorts of the lowrider style for those interested in non-USDM cars. Seriously. That E9 I posted earlier is a German lowrider with larger wheels. Thats all it is. I've talked to a few of people on this site who think low riders are cool and who hate stance, but its all in the same family.

Also, I like "stance". I hate what the culture has become (teenagers who talk shit about everyone and everything else when they're riding on cut springs and knock off wheels) but I genuinely like the style when executed well. Same with low riders. And pretty much every other style out there. I have a lot of respect for anyone who modifies their car the way they want it without worrying about pleasing random people on the internet, and who do it the right (read: safe, and unfortunately usually expensive) way. And I thought people on Oppo were generally the same way. Turns out a lot of you are, unless the car is "stanced," in which case you hope someone else's hard work and passion dies in a garage fire (you know who you are...).

Hell, even donks have a weird I-hate-you-but-I-love-you effect on me. I think they're just too stupid not to love... Does that make sense? No? Okay, never mind.

You hit the nail on the head there at the end I think. There's a sub-culture of hack that completely surrounds every culture...but just as there were rice hacks that were the butt of jokes a decade ago, the stance hacks are in the limelight now. If something is well done, I can appreciate it. My first venture into being part of a scene was a lot of guys with lowered trucks...when done right, they're still usable as trucks. When done wrong, shit isn't safe and doesn't look good and really just doesn't do anything right.

The thing with static dropped, stretched tire stance cars is...well...you can't drive the damn things. Things change on air, obviously. But if you've got a Mk I GTI dropped to an inch off the ground on some 13x10s with 195/25r13s, something about that just screams blowout waiting to happen. When a car is done well, it's done well. When it's an extreme, be it my example, or any other example in any other culture...its not.
